The NYU Teacher Residency in Danbury Public Schools is a one-year 30-credit master of arts in teaching program. There are opportunities to be hired as a full-time substitute teacher at a compensation of $18,000 during the course of your residency year. For those who don’t want to work full time, there is a part-time (20-hour per-week) student teaching option. 

The Danbury Public School District is located in Fairfield County, in southern Connecticut, approximately 50 miles northeast of New York City. Danbury Public Schools serves more than 11,000 students in grades pre-K-12. The details

Full-time substitute teacher

  • 30-credit master of arts in teaching (MAT) program
  • Meet online with NYU Steinhardt faculty and peers twice per week in the evening for your course work ~15 hours/week
  • ~40 hours/week in classroom residency at partner location
  • Tuition subsidy and stipend or wage from partner school
  • No requirement to teach at partner location beyond the residency year

Half-day student teaching

  • 30-credit master of arts in teaching (MAT) program
  • Meet online with NYU Steinhardt faculty and peers twice per week in the evening for your course work ~15 hours/week
  • ~20 hours/week for four to five days a week in classroom residency at partner location
  • No tuition subsidy or stipend/wage provided by district/charter partners
  • No requirement to teach at partner location beyond the residency year

As a teacher resident, you’ll be an intern alongside a lead teacher in your content area. This means you’ll work with another teacher and gain responsibility throughout the year. This immersive learning is designed to assist you with understanding your students and their learning process, setting you up to have a class of your own the following year.

Job After Graduation After successful completion of the program, you will be strongly considered for available teaching positions in your content area in a Danbury Public School. You are not obligated to take a position in the district post-graduation.
