The NYU Steinhardt Teacher Residency is designed to serve all learners. Now about to complete its third year, the Teacher Residency is a model for how to execute on that idea, as explored in a recent article from The 74 Million (The 74). Three core strategies drive the preparation program:
- All teachers will learn special education and English-language-learner strategies.
- Including emergent bilinguals and students with disabilities will be the rule, not the exception.
- New teachers will demonstrate their abilities before getting a classroom of their own.
The article also notes that the Teacher Residency recently received a grant from the Walton Family Foundation to expand its programming.
