Ty Martinez

About Me
My name is Ty Martinez. I am a recent graduate of the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s in mathematics. I lived in California for 22 years, I then moved to Florida where I have been living for the past three years. My interest in teaching began after having failed a math course in my freshman year of high school and then getting a tutor to help me through my next two years and then having an excellent college professor.
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
I thought this program would give me the best opportunity for a hands-on experience in pursuing the career I have aspired to for many years. Another aspect of the Teacher Residency program that interests me is that it would put me directly into a school to immediately start observing and then work my way up to working with students and creating my own lesson plans.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
After taking a trigonometry class where I met this wonderful professor Robin Witt. With her enthusiasm and her intellect, she had changed my mind on my career choice. Professor Witt taught me a valuable lesson to not chase money but to pursue happiness. Since she motivated me enough to change my career path, I know it is possible for me to motivate the students I will get to teach.
