About Me
My name is Melissa Eugene. I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and came to the United States when I was 5 years old. All my life I have been passionate about literature. After helping my friends study for exams and write our term papers in junior high school, I developed an interest in teaching. This new found passion for teaching has been with me ever since. I attended Bronx Community College, where I received my Associates degree and then I went on to received my bachelors degree and initial teaching certification from Hunter College. I have been teaching for seven years and counting. I love the classroom and I view it as my home away from home.
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
I am hoping to learn more about differentiated lessons and creating student friendly and creative scaffold. However, most of all, I am extremely excited to receive my Masters and professional certification.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
My 11th grade ELA teacher Ms. Mason was absolutely amazing. I was always a strong student. Sometimes I’d sit in class and daydream because the work was so easy. Ms. Mason challenged me and she did this without causing me to feel frustrated. I always remember her warmth and sternness. She is the reason I attended Hunter College, as she graduated from there as well.
