Hello everyone! My name is Maya Voytelmgum (she/hers). I am currently a senior at Stony Brook University majoring in marine vertebrate biology and minoring in sustainability studies. I grew up in Queens but now live on Long Island. My roles as a tutor, camp supervisor, teaching assistant, and resident assistant has made me realize one of my passion lie in helping/working with others. This along with my love for science and my views on education has led me on this path to be an educator.
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to getting to know the NYU Steinhardt faculty; to turn to them as mentors, a resource, and a tool that can provide support to best enhance my learning experience and abilities in the classroom.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
In addition to delivering and teaching the curriculum in a way that was comprehensible, they took the time to get to know their students. They were able to cater lessons and activities in a way that benefitted the most students. This teacher ensured that we as students knew we mattered and could turn to them for issues, even outside of the classroom. Additionally, they frequently offered up advice to help us not just in school, but in life. I think about those mini lessons often!
