Hello, my name is Bridget. I recently graduated with a BA in English from the University of Georgia (UGA). Although I was born in Richmond, VA, I have lived in Georgia for most of my life. There are few things that could compel me to say good-bye to the sprawling green forests and blue mountains of north Georgia, but this residency is one of them. I honestly did not think NYU would accept my application for this program, so the prospect of going to NYC to teach for 10 months overwhelms me with happiness and gratitude. I am so excited to meet everyone in the cohort and I’m looking forward to working with all of you!
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to meeting my fellow residents and working with students everyday. NYU - and specifically this residency program - was my top pick of schools because it allows me to work full-time in a school. I believe that the experience I will gain as a resident will directly correlate to my proficiency and success as a teacher.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
When I was young I wasn't a good writer. However, my high school history teacher taught me how to write and encouraged me to speak in class. She inspired confidence and a desire to learn, and pushed her students to take pride in our work. The memory of her belief in me and my fellow students prompted and guided me in my English studies at UGA and to follow in her footsteps by pursuing an MAT.
