About Me

Hi, My name is Adam Stewart. I currently live in Albany. I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Science at SUNY Albany. After graduation, I worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Camper-ship diversity program. This program was designed to introduce urban youth to nature-related activities while promoting urban environmental education. I’ve interacted with hundreds of youth and felt comfortable enough to connect and push them in the right direction. After three years in the program, I applied to my alma mater and became a middle school teacher.

What about the residency are you most looking forward to?

The NYU Teacher Residency presents a unique opportunity for growth in other communities. Having the ability to move across state lines/ or city to city and complete a residency program in a different place has its benefits. I am looking forward to interacting with a different group of kids to learn more about them and ultimately share my love of education with them.

Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?

Seamus Hodgkinson was the teacher that made education special. He created a segment called “magic or science?”. This question would promote critical thinking and deep thought. He would always say science starts with a “W.” The “W” stood for Why. As I traveled through academia, I kept this lesson near my heart.
