Gonzalo La Cava, chief of human resources at the School District of Palm Beach County, an NYU Teacher Residency partner, was featured this week in Education Week as a “Leader to Learn from” recognized for his focus on “creating new pathways to attract nontraditional candidates to the teaching profession, staff diversity, and retention.”
In this large district – the tenth-largest in the nation and fifth-largest in Florida – diversity matters. It serves more than 193,000 students who speak 146 languages and dialects and is resourced with 312 award-winning career academies, programs available for adult education at 28 sites, and instruction in several languages, including Chinese, French, Italian, Latin, Spanish, and American Sign Language.
Gonzalo La Cava is not the only leader in our Palm Beach County District Residency partner location to be recognized for their valuable contributions. The 2019 Principal of the Year for the School District of Palm Beach County was Dave Alfonso from Palm Beach Lakes Community High School.
