Hello, my name is Sherrise Figueroa, and I am from the Bronx, NY. My undergraduate studies are from Johnson and Wales University, Providence Campus, in which I studied Hospitality and Travel/Tourism. Additionally, I attained a Master’s in Public Administration from the Metropolitan College of New York. My professional trajectory consists of working in the travel and hotel industry, in which I then transitioned into the non-profit sector, fulfilling roles in summer camp and after-school programming. I am a wife and mother who loves her family and friends and is dedicated to creating long-lasting memories.
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
Genuinely I am excited about the support network and growth the residency will provide me. I am a firm believer in being a life-long learner to be able to inform others. Knowing this will be an environment I am familiar with but not used to its structure only encourages me to want to take in all the residency has to offer. My enthusiasm to join my cohort, future school community, and students is an excitement I cannot contain.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
An educator who made a long-lasting impression in my life was Ms. Santos. High school was a challenging time for me. Her endless empathy was remarkable and inspiring. She not only supported me but my family, regardless of the many challenges encountered. She made sure I understood my tenacity, and I have lived with that sense of empowerment my whole life.
