I grew up just outside of Syracuse NY in a town called Fayetteville. I am from a big family of 8 people. I went to Stonehill College for undergrad which is just South of Boston and I lived out there for 11 years. I majored in psychology and I played basketball for the men’s team for all 4 years. After Stonehill I spent a few years coaching both college and high school basketball. I also worked as a PCA (Personal Care Attendant) for 8 years. I was a one on one aid for a young man who was hurt in a hockey accident and unfortunately paralyzed from his shoulders down.
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to starting a new career in teaching. It has been something I have always been interested in but have had to put on hold for a few years with the job I landed right out of college. I think the part I am looking forward too the most is working in a hands on environment in a school. For me that is the most effective way to learn. I have always loved working with kids and making it a full time job is also exciting for me.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
I have had multiple teachers through high school and college that have made lasting impressions. These people are all still very special to me and I keep in touch with many of them. They were more than just teachers, they took the time to get to know me and develop a real relationship inside and outside of the classroom.
