I have lived in NYC all my life. I obtained my BA in English from Fordham University in May 2018. Done mainly office work for most of my professional career but became interested in teaching after working in a school as a counselor for a summer. I am now pursuing a master’s degree to become an English teacher in New York’s inner-city schools.
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
I'm looking forward to interacting with the students and gaining firsthand experience in teaching a classroom. As of now, I have no experience in teaching so beginning the learning process inside a classroom is exciting.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
Ms. Sneed was the first teacher to take a serious interest in my academics. She bought me a journal to write in whenever I finished my schoolwork and would often bring me books to read from her home. I used to get in trouble quite a bit before Ms. Sneed, but my behavior calmed down when she became my teacher. Her influence actually spurred my love for reading which has followed me all my life.
