Greeting Cohort, my name is An Kha. I am from Viet Nam. I studied in Syracuse University. My college major is Mathematics. When I was in Fowler High School, I tutored my classmate and friends during after the school program for 4 years. They all are English Second Language students. They don’t always understand the lecture in class so they struggle with math. And that’s where I come in. I explain the step of the problem and clarify math concepts for them. I tend to be a shy person. So I am aware of people who don’t speak up for help. Therefore, I want to make them feel welcome by talking with them and they will open up.
What about the residency are you most looking forward to?
I'm eager to meet my mentor teacher and my classmates who will be studying with me. This year I look forward to learning to be a good teacher. I want to be a friendly teacher who present good lesson. I am curious if my mentor teacher will be nice and approachable.
Did you have a teacher who made a lasting impression on you?
I have many teachers in my heart. But the first person I think of is Mr.Gavigan. He is a very kind and gentle teacher. He gave me a very warm feeling like home. He is the person who taught me in ESL from middle school to high school. He is always there for me and very supportive for me. I remember when I was sad during his class, he notice my distraction and came to talk with me. He encourage me.
