NYU Steinhardt’s residents are embedded in middle and high school classrooms within partner school districts and charter networks across the country. These partners provide financial support to make the Teacher Residency affordable to a diverse group of teacher residents. Partners will commit financing to offset the cost of your tuition in exchange for your commitment to teach in the district or charter network for two years beyond graduation.* Some charter school partners do not require a work commitment beyond graduation.

*Note: Based on successful completion of the program, eligibility, and availability.

I didn’t realize initially how unique the residency experience would be. Instead of only a short time in the classroom, in this extended period of time, I’ve learned so much more. I’ve changed my opinions and become more flexible in my understanding of what students need.

I grew up in Brooklyn. I love that I get to come back to my home city and work with a community that I have experience with and care about.
