Located in the Bronx and Brooklyn, Urban Dove Charter Schools (UD) serve over-aged, under-credited students through a three-year, project-based, personalized instructional program. All students partake in a sports- and fitness-based program to develop teamwork, healthy competition, and self-confidence.

UD leverages a sports-themed high school and combines the rigor of academics with real-world vocational programs and college- and career-readiness to help at-risk students succeed. At UD, three core values guide the school culture: teamwork, leadership, and communication. UD uses a sports and fitness theme to engage students — rather than just being part of a school, students are part of a team first. In these teams that are divided by gender, students go to class together and receive support services while being supported by a coach who mentors, guides, and counsels them as students, athletes, and citizens.

Teachers commit to preparing students for higher education and the workforce through building confidence, encouraging high expectations, and teaching life skills.  Every classroom has a general education teacher and a special education teacher, and all teachers practice restorative justice. You will always have two mentors to support you as you develop in the profession.   • Advancing Reading Levels and Cross-Content Literacy. Literacy is at the core of all subjects. UD works to get students to become skilled and confident readers.
  • Committed to Special Education. The faculty are focused on ensuring that effective specially designed instruction practices are deployed and that there are explicit interventions for special education students.

The Details

As a teacher resident, you’ll be an associate teacher in your content area. This means you’ll work alongside another teacher and gain responsibility throughout the year.
