Located in the Bronx borough of New York City, Hyde Leadership Charter School is part of a group of schools that develop the deeper character and unique potential of each student through its unique family-based character education. This curricula undergirds the belief that students are more complex than annual data points, and that the fulfillment of a person’s life correlates not simply to test scores, but even more so to their relationships with others and the content of their character.
Hyde utilizes a holistic approach to inclusive character development, which is integrated into the entire school community. Its core value system – courage, concern, curiosity, integrity, and leadership – guides relationships and priorities at Hyde. Five key principles create the foundation for the charter network’s culture: destiny, humility, conscience, truth, and brother’s keeper.
Knowing that families are critical components to a child’s success, Hyde helps families embrace these core priorities while engaging parents in uncommon ways. Family partnerships are enriched through activities such as parent discovery nights and family retreats. Hyde has a deep commitment that every family is able to fully participate and grow in their unique potential by having equal access to space, resources, programming, and personnel at the school.
Faculty share in the Hyde philosophy of building a supportive, inclusive learning environment for all children. Special education is integrated into all classrooms where teachers co-teach and plan together. You will be met with a support system and a team of people ready to back you up as you become part of the Hyde community. And through this genuine and transparent school culture, you will gain the skills to develop into a life-changing teacher.
- Re-committing to Experiential Learning - Hyde continually examines its project-based learning and determines what is needed most for students to succeed through hands-on learning.
- Developing Responsive Classroom - This approach connects academics to social-emotional learning. At Hyde, focusing on a responsive classroom model is intricately linked to the school culture.
- Facilitating Parent Involvement - Families are a critical part of the success of all of Hyde’s students. The faculty work hard to involve parents in all aspects of their child’s academics.
