FAQs

Do I need to make a commitment to teach in my placement school beyond the residency year?

The process is different depending on which residency option you chose: full-time or part-time.

Full-Time Option

After successfully completing the master’s program in the full-time Teacher Residency option, you’ll get priority hiring based on availability of positions within the school system. It varies by district and charter network, but most of our partners, who commit significant resources to your residency year (a stipend/wage and a significant master’s degree subsidy), require a  two-year commitment in return and hope that you’ll choose to be a teacher in their schools beyond the two years. See our full-time partner locations page for details.

Part-Time Option

You’ll have the flexibility to teach anywhere after successful completion of the master’s program in the part-time Teacher Residency option and having obtained the appropriate certification and licensure for the state in which you plan to teach.
