Frequently Asked Questions – Costs & Fees

How much will the master’s degree cost me?

NYU Steinhardt and our school district and charter partners are committed to making this program affordable. Our tuition model includes built-in scholarships and a paid residency year. The average cost of tuition after scholarships is $28,146 and students with significant financial need receive larger scholarships. You may also qualify for federal programs that provide financial support for teachers who make a commitment to teach in high-need subject areas and schools. Visit the Costs page for more details.

Will I be earning a salary?

Yes. You will be paid for work you do to support students during your residency year while you earn a subsidized master’s degree. You can count on $15,000 to $26,500 in wages to help with your educational and living expenses. This stipend or salary is determined by our district or charter partners. You can see the current wages and benefits offered to teacher residents on the individual School Location pages.

Is NYU housing available?

Since this is a residency program taking place in our partner schools, NYU housing is not available.

Is there a fee to apply?

Yes. The fee to apply is $75, along with a $200 deposit to enroll in the master’s program after accepting a job offer from a district or charter partner.
