Frequently asked questions
NYU Steinhardt faculty review applications first and then invite selected candidates to participate in a group interview. Final admission into the Teacher Residency requires each candidate to pass NYU Steinhardt faculty review. If you are admitted to the program, you will commit to participate in a half- or full-day NYU teacher residency with one of our program’s partner schools. You will go through a selection and hiring process with our district and charter partners if you choose to pursue the full-day residency option.
The MAT in Inclusive Childhood Education degree provides you with a foundation to become a teacher for younger learners in Grades 1-6, including students with disabilities. The MAT in Secondary Education degree prepares you with depth of knowledge in a chosen content area in English, mathematics, science, or social studies for Grades 7-12 (with a Grades 5-6 extension), or in secondary special education for Grades 7-12. Degree option availability varies by location.
Standardized graduate admissions exams such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Miller Analogies Test are not required.
